Situation

After the death of Stalin, you decide that it would be a good time to heal all those negative things he did to the satellite nations (Eastern European) of the Soviet Bloc. So you give a speech decrying Stalin and all his policies, or de-Stalinization. This goes over well with the Poles and the Hungarians...too well in fact. Both begin to clamor for more freedom under the newly created Warsaw Pact (Soviet alliance). In fact one of the two, the Hungarians, hope to remove themselves from the alliance completely. 'Oh no,' you think, 'If they go, the whole thing could just fall apart.' This might open up Eastern Europe to a military advance by the NATO forces, or - what could be worse - the Hungarians might just decide to join NATO. This could be the worse case scenario ever.

Possible Choices

  1. Send troops and military equipment immediately into Hungary. Occupy all government buildings and communication centers. Remove any leadership that supports Hungarian freedom and independence and put in place your very own puppet-like leader.
  2. Send them a polite letter telling them how you feel about their most recent declaration of independence and how you think it would not be in the interest of your newly created military alliance. Hope that they abide by the caution you are giving them.
  3. Do nothing. Hope that the Hungarian military which you outfit will see the light and put pressure on their fellow countrymen and its leadership to stay in the Warsaw Pact.

Be sure to provide reasons for your choice.
